Trauma and PTSD

Trauma can result from a very frightening or distressing event that causes a heightened emotional response.  A trauma response can occur following a single event of after a prolonged period of suffering, such is in the case of complex childhood and relational trauma.  Sometimes these events can result in pervasive psychological harm and require a specialised approach for a person to return to normal functioning.  Trauma can cause a significant disruption to a person’s functioning when left untreated and can severely disrupt subsequent relationships.  Our clinicians are trained to identify trauma symptoms and use several different treatment approaches, including Narrative Exposure Therapy, Graded Exposure and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming (EMDR).
